sunstar.jpg
Sunstar1042 viewsThis sweet, half Arab mare loves attention and people. Sunstar, who is in her mid-teens, was relinquished to Equine Voices when her owner could no longer take care of her. She is sound and can be ridden, but needs an experienced rider. Sunstar has a seasonal allergy that causes her to rub her tail. For this, she requires steroid treatment on an as needed basis.
Copper.jpg
Copper675 viewsPMU mare- Red Dun QH, born 1993.
It was a very merry Christmas for Copper, a sweet & gentle mare who got her wish and has found a wonderful, loving home with June & David Tyne of Tucson, AZ. Babe, a beautiful Peruvian Paso - June' s very first horse, and her great love, passed on Dec. 16, 2006. As hard as it was grieving her loss, June decided she needed to save a life, and came to EV. When she & David first met Copper, the bond was instant, and they looked no further. Copper has been adopted in honor of Babe, and she joins Tali - a Peruvian Paso, and Crusader- a miniature horse - the Tyne's other 2 horses, at her terrific new home.
Adopted December, 2006.

Cowboy.jpg
Cowboy898 viewsPMU colt, Belgian cross, foaled in Spring, 2007.
This is a very darling baby. Cowboy just arrived on October 18, 2007, from Manitoba, Canada, along with this fall's rescue. He is just adorable, and seems a bit shy. He likes to huddle with the other foals, and peek out from behind.

Casper & Wendy20 viewsI found Desert Springs Equine Sanctuary Center on the internet and did a bit of research. I soon discovered that DSESC had a partnership with Equine Voices. On a beautiful Saturday morning, my husband and I went for a tour of DSESC. As we walked from horse to horse and learned about the horrors that many had suffered, I was heartbroken. At the very last corral on the tour, I found a blue eyed, cremello colt that won my heart instantly. I learned about how this little colt had been born at DSESC and the story of “Hope” the foal’s mother. I was told that "Hope" and another mare “Joy” were rescued from auction by Equine Voices in March 2009 after being found packed with drugs and covered in pack sores. When Hope arrived at DSESC, she was so emaciated that they had no idea that she was well into her eighth month of pregnancy. As we drove away from Desert Springs, both my husband and I knew that we had found a new addition to our family.

Equine Voices approved our adoption and we named the colt “Casper”. As each day passed, I worked with Casper and my husband tagged along. Before we knew it, my husband had developed a soft spot for the little filly that shared Casper’s stall. The little filly was born to Joy, the other mare that Equine Voices rescued. Casper and the little filly were best friends and had been together since birth. We decided to adopt the filly and we named her “Wendy” (Casper’s girlfriend in the comics). Each day is more fun than the day before. Watching these two grow-up and having the opportunity to adopt them both is a dream come true. Whatever the future holds, these horses can live happily ever after in the same forever home! Every horse deserves a happy ending…

alabar.jpg
Alabar 232 viewsAlabar is 6 years old and is a very sweet little guy who gets along very well with other horses. He loves attention and enjoys being around kids and he has a very mellow temperament. He was under saddle but needs more training and would make a great horse for a experienced child or a petite person.
jazz.jpg
Jazz719 viewsPurchased at an Arizona Livestock auction, Jazz came to Equine Voices in May 2009. He was thin and had horrible sores on his back. It is believed he was used as a drug smuggling horse. Jazz was rehabilitated at Desert Springs Equestrian Center in Marana, a foster facility for Equine Voices horses. He was adopted by Melanie Martinez in October 2009. Jazz is now a riding horse for Melanies daughter and is a barn buddy for Melanies horse.
lorenzo.jpg
Lorenzo576 viewsLorenzo was purchased by Equine Voices at an Arizona Livestock auction in May 2009. He came to Equine Voices with two other horses, Jazz and Valentino. It is believed all three were used as a drug smuggling horse. Lorenzo was rehabilitated at Desert Springs Equestrian Center in Marana, a foster facility for Equine Voices horses. He was adopted by veterinarian Kayomee Daroowalla in August 2009 and is enjoying life as a companion for Kayomees 30-year-old gelding.
Valentino.jpg
Valentino625 viewsValentino came to Equine Voices in May 2009 with two other geldings, Lorenzo and Jazz. All three are believed to have been used to smuggle drugs into the United States and were then discarded in the hot, dry Southern Arizona desert. Valentino was rehabilitated at Desert Springs Equestrian Center in Marana, a foster facility for Equine Voices horses. He was adopted by Mary Modaff in October 2009 and is serving as good company for Marys elderly half Arab.
dolce.jpg
Dolce595 viewsDolce was skin and bones when he came to Equine Voices, but now he's strong, handsome and frisky! He's very friendly, trustworthy and loves to be handled. Dolce can be ridden and would make a great trail and light-riding horse.
carlie.jpg
Carlie888 viewsA beautiful gray mare, Carlie came to Equine Voices in January 2009 after a concerned woman saw her wasting away in someone's back yard and called to see if Equine Voices could help. Thin and weak, Carlie came to Equine Voices where, within months, she was healthy and vibrant. She was adopted by Jo Taylor in December 2009.
durango~0.jpg
Durango958 viewsDurango, a handsome and friendly gray and white paint, was born at Equine Voices in the spring of 2008. His mother, Angelina, was a PMU mare. This smart and friendly guy was spotted by the 8-year-old daughter of Equine Voices volunteer Lori Medcoff in the fall of 2009. Not long after, his adoption was pending. Helen.JPG
Helen547 viewsDraft cross, pregnant PMU mare from Manitoba, Canada, born 1998.
Helen is a big and beautiful girl. She just arrived at Equine Voices on October 18, 2007, along with 4 other pregnant mares, and 5 foals, who were rescued from an out of work PMU farm in Canada, and needing to dispose of their horses. Sundancer.jpg
Sundancer165 viewsPMU foal, born Spring, 2006, Belgian draft cross.
Sundancer came to Equine Voices as a weanling, saved from slaughter in the fall of 2006. A big and very elegant looking colt, he was rather shy and a bit skittish. Sundancer was looking for the right person to adopt him. That person came along one year later. Natalie Tornquist saw his picture, came to Equine Voices to meet Sundancer, and knew immediately that he was calling to her. Natalie has been riding since a small child, and was the proud owner of a much cherished horse for 15 years. When her mare died six years ago, Natalie continued to ride, but her grieving heart prevented her from seeking another horse until now. There was an instant bond, and Sundancer has been given a loving, forever home with Natalie.
Adopted October 17, 2007.
Shirley.jpg
Shirley181 viewsPMU mare, Quarter horse, born 1993 - rescued from slaughter, & transported from Alberta, Canada - 2005.
Shirley's story is surely incredible. She was at a PMU farm that lost its contract and sending all horses to slaughter. She had a foal by her side, and she was foundering. Her foal was adopted, but ended up on the slaughter truck...Shirley could not protect her. The farmer wanted to send Shirley to slaughter as she was foundering, but founder Karen begged for her life - paying full price for a lame horse. Shirley has become an extremely sweet and loveable mare. She was put up for adoption as a companion only, as she will always have some lameness issues, and she is prone to foundering. However, Deb Smoot, a volunteer who adopted another horse - yearling Bambi Bay, from Equine Voices, decided to give Shirley a forever home. Thank you, Deb. Please know that Shirley will give you back in gratitude and affection - ten fold - the love you will bestow on her as a member of your family.....
Marlo.jpg
Marlo164 viewsPMU mare from Alberta, Canada, rescued 2005.
Marlo is one of the sweetest mares. A horse who bonded quickly with people, it was apparent Marlo so wanted a home of her own. Approximately 20 years old, we thought her chances for adoption were getting rather slim. However, there was someone looking for a gentle mare to love. When Geri Pritzel viewed Marlo on our website, she somehow knew that Marlo was "the one." Marlo did get her heart's desire, and now has a home of her own on 5 beautiful acres in Flagstaff. She has Penny, a rescued donkey for a companion, and she will live out the rest of her life in comfort and happiness, being loved and givng love in return....
Adopted August 26, 2007
Calamity.jpg
Calamity Jane124 viewsThis very sweet 17 yr. old black PMU Quarter horse mare, rescued from Alberta, Canada in 2005, has found a forever home. She has been adopted by Carole Collins, who will be asking nothing other than love, hugs, and tranquil walks together. Carole was looking for a companion to her 18 yr. old ex-racehorse, and a horse on whom she could shower affection. When Carole saw Calamity Jane on our website, she thought this might be the one, especially as Carole's daughter is named Jane. A visit proved the match was right, and a happy ending for this gentle mare.
Luna.jpg
Luna166 viewsThis pretty little paint mare came to Equine Voices as a starvation case. She soon gained weight and her perky and friendly personality shone through. She was quickly adopted and given natural horsmanship training, but within a year she came back to Equine Voices due to her adopter's personal circumstances. Luna has found another home, and this time a permanent one. She has been adopted by Carol & Val Kozielski, with whom she instantly bonded. Luna will have 3 other horses for companionship, and two doting "parents" who will love her forever.
Gemi.jpg
Gemi172 viewsThis sweet and energetic part-Arab mare came to Equine Voices, relinquished by an owner. Gemi did not have to wait long before being adopted by Janice Mornis. Gemi will have two other Arabian horses for companions, and 15 acres on which to frolic and play.
tehya.jpg
Tehya316 viewsPMU mare - Palomino Paint. Tehya is a striking horse, with beautiful coloring and one blue eye. She had many, many inquiries, but Tehya is a horse who needed to pick her owner. Tehya bonded closely with Claudia Folch, a volunteer at Equine Voices. Claudia adopted Desert Star and knew that Tehya was the other horse to complete her herd of two. This is a happy horse, for there was no one besides Claudia, else with whom she forged such a close bond.

Amigo - Adopted1370 viewsADOPTED
2 yr. old - Red dun, Quarter horse, gelded
This gorgeous horse came from Alberta, Canada, as a foal with his dam, (Abbey) in 2005. Amigo was adopted to a loving home last year, but he was recently returned due to adopter's medical problems. He is a very striking horse, and in excellent health. (He was well taken care of, and kindly treated, by his former adopter) He is sweet & willing, and displays a great temperament. Amigo is halter-trained, leads & loads unto a trailer well. He would probably do very well in any discipline. He is hoping to find another loving home.
BambiBay2.jpg
Bambi Bay131 viewsBambi Bay was a PMU foal, who arrived at EV Dec., 2005, along with a big rescue from Alberta. She was too young & frail to be without her dam. However, this filly is spunky, and willful, and although, at 2 yrs. old, she is still lagging developmentally, she is quickly re-gaining ground. She is a love, and has always had a special place in one of our volunteers' heart. Deb Smoot, who has known & loved Bambi for a long time, decided she needed to adopt her and take her home. Bambi will always be cherished.
lily_Charisma2.jpg
Lily & baby "Truffle"214 viewsLily- draft X - pregnant PMU mare from Manitoba. Lily foaled April 13 - a beautiful & precious little filly. This sweet Mother/daughter pair did not have to wait long before being adopted. They have become a cherished part of Debbie Kesterson & her family, all of whom are gentle, committed, and experienced horse people. They will be together forever, & have attention & care from three generations. Debbie was gifted her first horse by her parents at 16. She is passing on this tradition and Lily's baby has been gifted to her 16 yr. old daughter, Nicole, who has named the filly "Charisma."
Serena.jpg
Serena384 viewsPMU mare from Alberta, Canada. Belgian draft, born 1995.
Serena is a show-stopper. Although reticent when she first arrived from Canada in December, 2005, she came around and began trusting. She was adopted pending out of state, but it fell through. Shannon & Mitch Cusolito became volunteers at EV, and there was a special bond and kinship between Shannon & Serena. This gorgeous mare called out to Shannon, and she responded in kind. Serena now has a permanent, loving home with the Cusolito's, and resides in a restive, grass pasture shared with another mare. Adopted May, 2007.
Giselle.jpg
Mama Cass - "Cassie"160 viewsPMU mare, Belgian cross. Cassie came to EV from a PMU farm in Manitoba November, 2006. She and her soon to be born baby has found a wonderful home with Geniece and Max Bauer. Geneice spent her childhood with horses, and rehabilitated a rescued race horse, ultimately using him as a therapy horse. A very loving woman, she wanted to rescue a PMU, and immediately bonded with Cassie. A vet approved the short transportation to her new home, and Cassie (with the last foal she will bear, and the only one she will keep forever) have been placed in their new home. Adopted April, 2007.
Desert_Star2.jpg

Desert Star was rescued with his dam, Desert Breeze, from a Canadian feedlot. This gorgeous gelding, like his Mom, has a beautiful sculptured head, pretty conformation with long legs & neck, and a very aristocratic demeanor. Claudia Folch, a volunteer at EV, fell in love with this colt from the first time she saw him. She & husband Miguel decided to purchase horse property to provide a home for this new, cherished addition to their family. Claudia dreamed of owning her own horse for many years, and with Desert Star, it has finally come true! Adopted April, 2007

Tri-colored, with a very pretty face, Melody shows a lot of potential in her moves, and displays a sweet temperament. She has been adopted by a wonderful couple who donated funds to help rescue two horses this year, of which Melody was one. She will train her for both Western & English, utilizing the Parelli method. Adopted September, 2006.
Sydney.jpg
Sydney275 viewsA big & powerful draft/Quarter cross, Sydney was quite elusive and mistrusting for a very long time. An alpha mare, she displayed much bravado....but underneath it all, this gorgeous 7 year old PMU mare was hoping for a special, understanding someone to give her a loving home, and was slowly starting to trust again. She now will have a "safe & quiet existence in which she can live in peace" with adopter, Becky Castaneda, an EV volunteer who also adopted Elizabeth, Max, and Sydney's yearling filly - Star.
